The Y

 This natural wooden sculpture appeared to make a distinct shape of the letter Y when it was nearing completion and it seamed like an appropriate title – “The Y”

This is the 2nd piece in the RET Australian Natural Art series and was found in late 2014 and completed early 2015. It has beautiful contrasts between the black and the yellow colours of the live and dead grain, this was particularly evident once the piece was varnished.

The Y is 130cm in total height and spans 80cm in width. It has been mounted onto a 25cm diameter metal base made from black checker plate steel.

The spirit of the Australian Outback seams to be encapsulated in pieces like The Y. Perhaps this is because it took decades of some of the harshest Australian conditions imaginable to sculpt this truly unique & stunningly beautiful piece of wood.
